PEKIN ~ Spencer "Spenny" Driggs, Jr., 57, of 1402 Caroline Street, passed away at 7:05 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at his residence.
Born October 7, 1948 in Englewood, New Jersey to Spencer, Sr. and Mary Claire (Drudy) Driggs, he married Patricia W. Gardner on August 7, 1971 in Decatur.
Surviving are two sons, Spencer Walker Benjamin "Ben" Driggs of Chicago and Adam G. Driggs of Elmwood; two brothers, Paul (Joan) Driggs of Elmhurst and Peter (Jerri) Driggs of Wyckoff, New Jersey and one sister, Christine (Robert) Wells of Boston, Mass. He also leaves his two dogs, Inky and Nubbs.
His parents preceded him in death.
A 1970 graduate of Millikin University in Decatur with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, he received his Master of Arts degree in Colonial History from Ball State University at Muncie, Indiana in 1972.
Mr. Driggs was a teacher for Pekin Public Schools District 108 for 32 years, retiring in 2004. He taught 7th and 8th grade Social Studies at Edison Jr. High and Washington Jr. High. He also taught 6th grade at C.B. Smith and last at Wilson Intermediate School. He was a member of the National Education Association, the Illinois Education Association and the Education Association of Pekin.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 916 in Pekin since 1984. Spenny was a former member and past president of the Pekin Chapter of AMBUCS. He enjoyed reading and played golf from time to time. He did carpentry work and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.
A memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Cremation will be accorded. There will be no services.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
