MANITO ~ Daffo B. Hamlet, 92, of 508 East Main Street, passed away at8:15 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2010 at her residence. Born February 24, 1918 in Gainesboro, Tenn. to Luke and Della Mai (Richardson) Scott, she married Willie R. Hamlet on July 31, 1933 in Cookville, Tenn. He died April 30, 1971. She also was preceded in death by one son, Lonnie Wayne Hamlet, 4 brothers; 1 sister; and 2 granddaughters.
Surviving are 4 sons, James H. Hamlet of Gainesboro, Raymond L. Hamlet of Miami, Fla., George Ray Hamlet of Orlando, Fla. and Floyd E. Hamlet of Peoria; 4 daughters, Wilma (Wayne) Lennox of Forest City, Frances Mai Donaldson of Toulon, Mary E. Phillips of Manito and Joyce A. (Galen) Campen, of East Peoria; several grandchildren many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Liry Petty of Gainesboro, and Lucy (George) Brown of Livingston, Tenn.
Daffo was a member of First Baptist Church in Manito.
She last worked as a daycare provider at Neighborhood House in Peoria. Previously, she had worked at Morton Pottery and at a shirt factory in Carthage, Tenn.
Daffo enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, and flower gardening
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m., Friday, May 28, 2010 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes and Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Lauren Padgett will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria.
