GLASFORD ~ John E. Peters, 67, of 100 E. 10th St., passed away at 10:31 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born Apr. 10, 1943 in Canton to Marion and Marjorie (Danner) Peters, he married Susan Beecher on June 12, 1965 in Palmyra, MO.  She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, James (Diana) Peters and Robert (Sheri Piccoli) Peters, both of Mapleton; two grandsons, Justin Peters and Pierce Westerdahl and one sister, Jane (Bob) Davis of St. Augustine, FL.

John worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 36 years, retiring in June 1999 as a planning engineer at the Mossville plant.

He was a former member of the First Christian Church in Canton.

John was a volunteer fire fighter for the Timber-Hollis Fire Protection District for 25 years.

He enjoyed woodworking, camping, H.O scale model trains, and was always willing to help anyone with anything.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  The Rev. Paul D. Cook will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery in Glasford.
