PEKIN ~ Jimmie R. Davis, 72, of 1112 South 5th Street, passed away at 4:25 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

Born October 3, 1938 in Kingston Mines to Raymond Leslie and Geraldine Rose (Lanan) Davis, he married Mary Agnes Dorethy on June 27, 1959 at the Glasford United Methodist Church.  She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Darren J. Davis of Pekin and Dr. Dale J. (Dr. Lisa) Davis of Midland, MI; five grandchildren, Alec C. Davis, Madeline J. Davis, Elizabeth C. Davis, Julia I. Davis, all of Midland, MI and Dirk J. Davis, Jr. of Melbourne, FL and one sister, Melody R. (Chuck) Emig of Bartonville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dirk James Davis on June 3, 2007 in Peoria and one sister, Carol J. Dorethy.

Jimmie worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for more than 32 years, last working as a line foreman in Building X in East Peoria.  His favorite job at Cat was as a training instructor in Building W in East Peoria.  He retired in 1989.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin, where he was a member of the United Methodist Men and enjoyed serving funeral dinners with the Kitchen ministry.

He enjoyed deer, duck and dove hunting.  He also liked fishing and camping and generally being outdoors.  He was a former member of the Pekin Archers Club and a former volunteer fire fighter with the Timber Hollis Fire Department.  He was a New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs baseball fan.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Pekin.  The Rev. Terry C. Edele will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, and also from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.  Burial will be in Kingston Mines Cemetery.
