Lucille N. Hackney
8/25/1922 - 10/26/2011

PEKIN ~ Lucille Nadine Hackney, 89, of 1500 Terrace Blvd., formerly of John M. Evans Supportive Living Center, passed away at 4:55 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Born August 25, 1922 in Adair County, Kentucky to Samuel J. and Fannie L. (Neat) Cundiff, she married Fred E. Hackney on March 1, 1941 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.  He died November 24, 1979 in Peoria.  She also was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and one brother.

Surviving are three sons, Fred J. (Pam) Hackney and Larry (Kim) Hackney of Pekin and Jeff (Debbie) Hackney of Taylorville; three daughters, Sandra (Tom) Ingles, Belinda (Roger) Copeland and Debra (Wayne) Weaver all of Pekin; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Hazel Little of Phoenix, Arizona, Gerry Stiles and Nina Reinders, both of Peoria.

Lucille was a former member of Grace Baptist Church in Pekin and was currently a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Pekin.

Along with her husband, son and daughter-in-law, Lucille owned and operated the Chink Rink in Pekin for 12 years.  She had previously worked at the 14th Street Market in Pekin for 10 years.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Peoria.

She cherished time spent with her family and enjoyed being a Cub Scout Den mother throughout the 1960’s.  She enjoyed gospel music, cooking, baking and sewing.  She also enjoyed researching family genealogy. 

Lucille was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan.  She was selected to have a wish granted by the Dreams for Seniors organization and was able to attend a Peoria Chiefs baseball game, where she met one of her favorite players, Ryne Sandberg.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Baptist Church in Pekin.  Pastor Steven M. Rowell, Pastor Randy Justus, and her grandson, Pastor Kurt Copeland will officiate.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
