MAPLETON ~ Michael Edward "Mike" Travis, 57, of Mapleton, passed away at 5:18 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at his home.
Born July 17, 1954 in Peoria to Norman Charles and Erma Lee (Russell) Travis, he married Pamela Sue Ripper on July 9, 1981 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Brandon Travis of Mapleton; his mother and step-father, Erma and James Mills of Largo, Florida; two sisters, Lynda Travis Coziahr and Theresa Travis, both of Largo, Florida; and two brothers, Norman "Butch" (Maureen) Travis, Jr. of Sacramento, California and Joseph (Billie) Travis of Livingston, Texas.
His father preceded him in death.
He had served in the United States Army.
Mike remodeled and then sold the homes for the past 10 years. Previously, he had worked on the TP&W Railroad.
He was a member of St. John's (Sand Prairie) Lutheran Church in rural Green Valley.
Mike enjoyed fishing and working on cars, especially his corvette. His biggest joy was being at his home surrounded by his family and friends.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2011 at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Green Valley. The Rev. Thomas Wenndt and William Krueger, DCE will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin and also from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Sand Prairie Cemetery in rural Green Valley.
