Florence A. Husby

PEKIN ~ Florence Anne Husby, 93, of Pekin, passed away at 8:40 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born November 30, 1918 on the family farm in Pekin Township, Tazewell County to Fred Frank and Emily Marie (Brosmer) Heisel.  She married William Foley Clark on August 29, 1942 at Randolph Field, TX.  She later married LaVerne M. "Vern" Husby on November 14, 1987 in Pekin.  He died in May of 1990 in Peoria.  She also was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Fred George Heisel and her companion of 20 years, Miss Kitty.

Surviving are one daughter, Carol Ann Williams of rural Pekin; one son, Mark Alan (Susan) Clark of Mapleton; two grandchildren, Jeffery S. Bagley of Pekin and Bree Ann Clark of Mapleton; one great-grandson, John H. Bagley of Pekin and two brothers, Robert Emil (Ann) Heisel of Pekin and H. Richard (Alice) Heisel of Gaylord, MN.

A 1940 graduate of the Proctor Hospital School of Nursing, she completed post graduate studies in obstetrics at the Chicago Lying Hospital.  She also completed pediatrics training at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria and pharmacy courses at Illinois Central College.  She completed her mental health training at Ypsilanti, MI.

Florence was a registered nurse for 12 years as a tuberculosis nurse at the Tazewell County Sanitarium.  She then worked for the State of Illinois First at Zeller Zone in Peoria in Geriatrics and then with the Department of Public Health in long-term care licensing, retiring with 20 years of service in 1987.  She also did private duty nursing in Pekin and Peoria and formerly worked as a nurse at Macon County Hospital.
She was appointed by Governor James Thompson to serve on the State of Illinois Committee on Alzheimer's for a term of 10 years.

Florence enjoyed travelling and always had her bags packed.  She was life member of Altrusa International in Pekin.  Florence was a member of the Pekin Registered Nurses Club, Pekin Hospital League and was an American Red Cross Nurse since 1951.

She was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin.  The Rev. Dwight E. Borden will officiate.  Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, and also from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church.  Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
