PEKIN ~ William “Bill” Hurt, 81, of Pekin, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in the Pekin Hospital Emergency Room.
Born August 6, 1930 in Pekin to Whit and Adeline (LeMasters) Hurt, he married Dorothy G. Meyer on December 25, 1954 in South Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Sharon (Dyke) Hanson of Noblesville, Indiana, Karen (Jim) McKean and Shannon (Vern) Lewis, both of Pekin; one son, William (Janet) Hurt of Morton; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Allen of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Hurt; one brother-in-law, Paul Allen; and one sister-in-law, Lena Hurt.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.
Bill worked for Keystone Steel and Wire Company in Bartonville for 30 years, retiring in 1985 as a machine operator in the netting department.
He was a member of South Pekin Congregational Church and was a life and 58 year member of Empire Masonic Lodge #126 in Pekin.
Bill enjoyed playing chess, fishing, and being outdoors. His greatest joy was being with his family. He was a Chicago Cubs fan.
His visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. A Masonic service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home followed by a memorial service. The Rev. Eric Branch will officiate. Burial of cremated remains will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded.
