Mary A. Mitchell

PEKIN ~ Mary Alice Mitchell, 93 of Pekin passed away at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Pekin Manor.

Born August 22, 1918 in Missouri to Charles and Sadie (Simmons) McFall, she married Carl Mitchell in Eureka.  He preceded her in death on December 27, 1990 in Danville, IL.

Also preceding her in death are one daughter, Charlotte in 1969; one son, Richard in 2011; one brother and three sisters.

Surviving are four daughters, Margaret (Benny) Boyer of Pekin, Mary Lynn (Jeff) Drone of Yates City, Cheryl (Fred) Kohle of Peoria, Janet (Ray) Hedden of Portland, TX; three sons, Charles (Kathy) McCoy of Pekin, Gary (Betty) Mitchell of Bartonville, David (Karen) Mitchell of Sarasota, FL; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.

Mary had worked for ABC Washer Co. in East Peoria during WWII making ammunition for the troops.  After ABC, she was owned and ran Penn's Tavern in Peoria with her husband "Mitch".  She had also worked as an election judge in Tazewell Co.

She was a member of St. John's (Sand Prairie) Lutheran Church in rural Green Valley where she a member of the Epiphany Society.

A very family oriented person, she loved sewing, in particular, making Teddy Bears and Raggedy Ann dolls for her family.  Mary also enjoyed cooking and writing poetry, going to garage sales, fishing, riding horses and doing lip sync.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m., Friday at St. John's (Sand Prairie) Lutheran Church in rural Green Valley.  The Rev. Kevin Bueltmann, Rev. Thomas Wenndt and DCE William Krueger will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Further visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m., Friday at the church.  Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
