Macomb ~ Vernadene Elliott, 84, of 1212 Madelyn Ave., formerly of 1218 E. Washington, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at The Elms Nursing Home in Macomb, IL after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
She was born on February 2, 1928 in Quincy to Hershel and Winifred (Sours) Sweeney. She married Max Elliott on August 10, 1950 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He died May 28, 2000 in Macomb. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one infant son, Darve Elliott; and two brothers, Max Sweeney and Donald Sweeney.
Surviving are one son, Donald Joe (Julie) Elliott of Laharpe; three daughters, Teri (John) Pyles and Jill (Hank) Heberling, both of Macomb and Cheri (Steve) Zellers of Good Hope; ten grandchildren, Jarrod Elliott, Brittin Elliott, Autumn Elliott, Dalton Elliott, Shawn Graham, Jillian (Troy) Robinson, Shane George, Chesi DeWeese, Devin Heberling, Adam Stoneking and Corey (Stephanie) Stoneking; seven great-grandchildren, Keera Robinson, Caden Robinson, Paul McDaniel-Robinson, Jakob DeWeese, Zander DeWeese, Noah Stoneking, Braden Stoneking; and one brother, John Sweeney of Clovis, California, one sister in-law Jean Sweeney and several nieces and nephews.
Vernadene had worked for Sweeney Cleaners in her younger years. She later enjoyed being a homemaker, mother and grandmother. Vernadene was loved by all who knew her. She was a loving, thoughtful, humble, selfless, woman. She enjoyed being with her family. She was sweet and funny and had a loving and giving "Christ-like" spirit. She is reunited in Heaven with Jesus and the rest of her family.
Her memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Macomb Assembly of God Church. Pastor John Keck will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial of cremated remains will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb.
