Stanford R. Schmidt

PEKIN ~ Stanford Raymond Schmidt, 85 of Pekin passed away at 6:40 a.m. Sunday, July 29, 2012 at Pekin Manor.

He was born September 29, 1926 in Clinton, IN to Fredrich and Delia (Reese) Schmidt.  He married Betty Jean Wells on November 18, 1950 in Pekin.

Surviving are one son, Jim Schmidt of Pekin; one daughter, Sue Ann (Ric) Munge of Pekin; four grandchildren, Tera (Doug) Deal, Tonya (Jason) Hogue, Cole Munge and Stacia Munge and five great-grandchildren, Cameron Rohde, Allyson Rohde, Ashleigh Rohde, Savannah Hogue and Aislynne Hogue.He was preceded in death by his parents.

Stan served in the United States Navy just following World War II and attended Bradley University from 1946 to 1947.  At Bradley, Stan played freshman football and basketball.

He had worked for the United States Postal Service as a mailman for 20 years, then as a vehicle maintenance manager for 10 years before retiring in 1982 with 30 years of service.  He also was a part-time meat cutter for 20 years in the Pekin area.

Stan was a member of the Pekin Moose Family Center #916 and a former member of the Pekin Elks Lodge #1271.  He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior in 2011.

He loved to golf, bowl and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bulls.

His funeral will be at noon Friday, August 3, 2012 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Rev. Charlie Dean will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.  Military honors will be provided by the Military Funeral Honors Team and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
