PEKIN ~ Gregory G. Barthel, 70, of Pekin, passed away at 1:28 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at his home.
Born December 28, 1942 in Gowanda, New York to Gordon and Katherine (Margeson) Barthel, he married Anna Phillips on September 30, 1984 in Silver Creek, New York. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Kimberley Rybij of Dunkirk, New York, Annette (Travis) Quick of Pekin and MaryAnn (Dennis) Hall of Canton; three sons, Kevin Barthel and Kyle (Erin Vacanti) Barthel, both of Forestville, New York and Brad Donath of Ina; fifteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beverly (Robert) Gurney of St. Petersburg, Florida and Sandra (Joe) Perchy of Gowanda, New York; one daughter-in-law, Julie Barthel of Newport, North Carolina; and one son-in-law, William Dennis of Gowanda, New York.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Robin Dennis.
Greg had worked 20 years for Bethlehem Steel in Lackawanna, New York, retiring in 1983. He then worked as a crane builder for Washington Equipment in Eureka, retiring in 2002 after 15 years of service.
Greg enjoyed woodworking and playing cards with his friends. He cherished time spent with his grandchildren.
His funeral will be at 7 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2013 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Shane Hawkins will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the service. Cremation will be accorded following services.
