Sara J. Sisk

TREMONT ~ Sara J. Sisk, 80, of Tremont, passed away at 7:32 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Hawthorne Manor of Peoria surrounded by family.  She was formerly of Pekin.

Born June 2, 1937 in Nettleton, Arkansas to Lowell Rudolph and Mary Aline (Wiley) McGowan, she married Richard Lee Sisk on July 18, 1954 in Pekin.  He died April 17, 2012 in Tremont.  She also was preceded in death by her parents and twin sons, Rickey and Barry Sisk.

Surviving are one daughter, Cheryl (Jerry) Boo of Tremont; one son, Daniel L. (Lisa) Sisk of Denham Springs, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Jenelle Boo of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jacob Boo of Muncie, Indiana, Julianne (Caleb) Nanzer of Ottawa, Jordan Sisk, Lindsey Sisk, both of Denham Springs, Louisiana, Heath (Cody) Hickman of Alexandria, Louisiana; two great-granddaughters, McKenzi Hickman and Aralynn Rose; one brother, Paul McGowan of Newburgh, Indiana and one sister, Sandra Lee (George) David of Mapleton.

Sara shared her Christian faith as a longtime church pianist, organist and vocalist at First Baptist Church in Pekin and later at Tremont Baptist Church, where she was a member.  She also had taught Sunday School, Bible Studies and led music for Vacation Bible School over the years at First Baptist.  She also taught piano lessons in her home for many years.  Sara had an outgoing and friendly personality and enjoyed her membership in the Red Hat Society in Pekin and Tremont and her card club.  She was a past president of the Christian Women’s Club in Pekin and a member of the Peoria Area Piano Teacher’s Association.  She enjoyed tole painting.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, September 11, 2017 at Tremont Baptist Church.  Pastor Noah D. Lee will officiate.  Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, and also one hour before the funeral at the church on Monday.  Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
