PEKIN ~ Lucy Irene Scott, 85, of Pekin went to be with her Lord at 2:38 a.m. Thursday, September 28, 2017.

Irene was born on January 23, 1932 in the small town of Red Bay, Alabama to Thomas and Lucy (McCarly) Raper.

Irene's heart was won by L.D. Scott and they were married on February 16, 1949 in Mississippi.  Together they built a wonderful legacy through their five children.  They include Sue (Jim) Fletcher, Phillip Scott, Debbie (Randy) Benton, Donna (Bob) Reiling, and Karen (Chris) Lewis, all survive and live in Pekin.  Their legacy continues with the addition of twelve grandchildren, Jimmy Render, Jeff Render, Greg (Jen) Render, Erin (Bruce) Killen, Todd (Sara) Benton, Erika (Matt) Reeb, Elisha (Eric) Swanson, Sonya (Greg) Canary, Zach Reiling, Cory (Ashley) Scott, Kelsey (Dan) Lewis Petersimes; and two step grandchildren, Jake (Tammie) Fletcher and Melinda Holmes.  Irene had 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; four sisters; one grandson, Brandon Newcomb; one daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Scott; and one son-in-law, Jim Render, Sr.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Pekin and enjoyed reading her Bible.

A homemaker, Irene loved flower and vegetable gardening and enjoyed cooking, especially southern style.  Her chocolate and biscuits were legendary.  She was a seamstress and in her younger years sewed clothes for her children and grandchildren.  Her grandchildren were her heart and soul and the feeling was mutual.  She was a great story teller.
