Obituaries are so much more than a public notice that a friend or loved one has passed away.

L. Christine Nordvall

10/13/1940 - 10/8/2017

PEKIN ~ Lois Christine Nordvall, 76, of Pekin, passed away at 6:24 a.m. Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Morningside, of Pekin with her children at her bedside.
She was born October 13, 1940 in Bloomington to Theodore Roosevelt and Alta May (Brooks) Smith.  On October 4, 1975 she married the love of her life, Douglas F. Nordvall.  They enjoyed forty years of marriage before he preceded her in death on October 1, 2015 in Pekin.  She also was preceded in death by her eldest son, Paul Guymon on September 11, 2017.
She was loved and adored by all her children.  Surviving are Janet L. (Joe) Guymon-Harman, Charles B. (Suzi) Guymon and Barbra J. (Brian) Nordvall-Dunnigan.  Also surviving are nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Chris had a long, fulfilling career as closing coordinator for Century 21-Halstead & Wolfe, and then for Coldwell Banker-Olt & Griffin in Pekin.  She most enjoyed getting to know the many clients of these two businesses.
As a teen-ager she performed country and western music with her guitar at many small venues, including a spot at the Illinois State Fair and on the Morris B. Sach’s Amateur hour.  She also played the accordion and the organ proficiently.  To say that she loved music would be an understatement.  Her family fondly remembers her singing and playing music during the holidays and throughout their life.
In 1969, she was awarded the gavel of Worthy Matron of the Alamo Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.  Then, in February 2015, she was recognized again as a member of the Order for 50 years.
But of all her accomplishments, her greatest one was raising her children.  She cherished all of them and deeply enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Rev. Hank Anderson will officiate.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Private burial will be in Woodrow Cemetery in rural Pekin.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society at 4234 N. Knoxville Ave. Peoria, IL 61614.
