PEKIN ~ Dorothy Jean “Dottie” Berkley, 85, of Pekin, passed away at 2:20 a.m. Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Morton Villa Healthcare and Rehabilitation Centre in Morton.
Born April 13, 1932 in Decatur to Elmer and Opal (Hunt) Davenport, she married Lloyd Joseph Berkley on February 1, 1969 in Decatur. He died July 7, 2005 in Pekin. Also preceding her in death are her parents and one daughter, Donna Books on October 16, 2011.
Surviving are two daughters, Lynn Peters of Pekin, Patricia “Pati” (Wes) Jockisch of South Pekin; one son, Tony (Connie) Berkley of Pekin; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; one sister, Karin Tribolet of Morton and close friends, Steve Schoonover and Dennis Drew.
She worked 34 years for Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Alton, retiring in 1983 as an inspector / selector. She then worked in Jennings, Missouri in retail security at the JC Penney Outlet for 10 years, and then worked 8 years for Villa Rose Retirement Community in Alton, Illinois.
Dottie was a member of the Wood River Chapter 263 Women of the Moose in Woodriver, Illinois.
A “sweetheart of a lady”, Dottie loved reading, particularly religious books and Readers Digest, painting, playing cards and board games. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling with her bowling team. She also enjoyed golf, fishing, camping and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m., Friday, October 20, 2017 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday afternoon at Star Hope Cemetery in Elsberry, Missouri.
