Dean D. Gibbs

PEKIN ~ Dean D. Gibbs, 86, of Pekin, passed away at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at his home.

Born February 22, 1931 in Wayne County, Iowa to Clarence and Wilda (Walmer) Gibbs, he married Helen McCune on January 13, 1951 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and was happily married for 66 years.  She survives.  

Also surviving are one son, Douglas D. (Claudia) Gibbs of Lincoln, Nebraska; one daughter, Karen K. (Jim) Dulin of East Peoria; two grandsons, Kevin M. and Joseph P. Dulin, both of Peoria; four brothers, Bill Gibbs of Corydon, Iowa, Loy Gibbs of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Butch (Joy) Gibbs of Des Moines, Iowa, Floyd (Marilyn) Gibbs of Corydon, Iowa; one sister, Kathleen (Russ) Dotts of New Virginia, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Edna (McCune) Pesek and Teresa (McCune) Keister, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Michael on June 18, 2006 in Pekin.

Dean was a United States Marine Corp veteran, serving during the Korean War.

He worked 25 years for Weyerhaeuser Corp. and was the owner of the Carousel Lounge in Columbus, Ohio for 20 years, retiring in 1994.

Dean has always been a happy guy and the life of the party.

Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded and there will be no services or visitation.  Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date in Iowa.  Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin is assisting the family with arrangements.
