Michael G. Jakoby, III

PEKIN ~ Michael George Jakoby, III, 79, of Pekin, passed away at 12:07 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at the UnityPoint Health – Pekin Emergency Room.

Born December 30, 1937 in Peoria to Michael George and Doretta Johanna (Sutton) Jakoby, Jr., he married Ida Louise Neavear on January 9, 1965 in Peoria.  She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Dr. Michael (Susan) Jakoby, IV of Chatham and Lt.Col. Vernon (Nadel) Jakoby of Waxahachie, TX; five grandchildren, Caleb Jakoby of Killeen, TX, Michael G. Jakoby, V, William Jakoby, both of Chatham, James Jakoby and Jillian Jakoby, both of Waxahachie, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Pat Peplow, Nancy Gruber and Mary Trimpe.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960 as an aircraft mechanic.

Mr. Jakoby worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 30 years as a fire inspector at the Mapleton Foundry, retiring in 1999.

A devoted husband, he especially enjoyed spending time with family.  He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching baseball, basketball, football.  He also enjoyed golfing, fishing and traveling.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.

His funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 6, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.  Father Michael Andrejek will be the celebrant.  Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the United States Air Force and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, in care of St. Joseph Catholic Church, 303 South 7th Street, Pekin, IL 61554 or to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, 530 Northeast Glen Oak Avenue, Peoria, IL 61637.
