PEKIN ~ Harold Hover Lewis, 87, of Pekin, passed away at 6:43 p.m. Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Heartland Health Care Center – Riverview in East Peoria.

Born July 23, 1930 in Rolla, MO to Robert H. and Carrie Belle (Beddoe) Lewis, he married Linda Lou Boyer on April 18, 1954 in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Kimberly Ann (Dan) Lyle of Normal; one son, Robert David (Nancy) Lewis of Pekin; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Henry, Fred, Jack and LeRoy and five sisters, Bessie, Dollie, Wanda Lee, Judy Ann and Linda Pearl.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Harold William Lewis; one daughter, Judy Lee; one granddaughter, Taky Vedder; two brothers, Robert and David and one sister, Rita Sue.

Harold was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was proud to be on the Honor Flight from Peoria on June 3, 2014.

He retired from Caterpillar, Inc. on December 23, 1988 after working 33 years and 3 months, working the last 18 years at the Proving Grounds in Germantown Hills. He later worked in maintenance for Pekin Public Schools District 108, retiring in 2000.

Harold enjoyed woodworking, fishing and loved traveling with Linda in their camper. His greatest love came from raising his family.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor John Plunkett will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Military rites will be provided by the United States Army and Tazewell Military Rites Team.
