William J. Meyer
1/25/1937 - 11/15/2017
PEKIN ~ William Joseph “Bill” Meyer, 80, of Pekin, passed away at 4:24 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Reflections Memory Care in Pekin.
Born January 25, 1937 in Boonville, Missouri to Vernon Samuel and Madelyn Geneive (Kiefer) Meyer, he married Patricia Jo “Pat” (Greene) Carlson on October 29, 1988 in Groveland. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, William Scott Meyer of Quincy; one daughter, Kristie (Bill) Bruneman of Bartlett; one step-daughter, Amy (Jeff) Robinson of Peoria; one step-son, Doug Carlson of Pekin; five grandchildren, Kayla Bruneman, Hannah Bruneman, Lindsey Bruneman, Benjamin Robinson and Riley Robinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Derek Meyer and one infant sister.
A 1958 graduate of Canton High School, he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Western Illinois University in Macomb in 1962. He later earned his Master’s Degree in Counseling from Bradley University in Peoria.
Bill was employed by Pekin Community High School District 303 for 28 years as a physical education and driver’s education teacher, retiring in June of 1994. He previously worked as a physical education teacher at South Pekin Grade School and for North Pekin-Marquette Heights School District 102.
He was a member of Tazewell County Retired Teachers Association and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. After retirement, he was a substitute physical education teacher at area schools.
Bill loved his family and was affectionately known as BoBo to his grandchildren. He had a personality that could not be matched. He loved making people laugh with his one-of-a-kind jokes, dancing in the living room, taking great pride in all the students he had, doing projects in his most unique way, and most of all, touching so many hearts along the way. His willingness to help and entertain others was a reminder of the most precious things in life. Bobo never took anything too seriously; his goofy behavior and unwavered positivity will be remembered most.
Our family would like to express our most sincere thank you to everyone at Reflections Memory Care of Hollybrook in Pekin. Your care, kindness and love for Bill made his last few months joyful, fun and peaceful.
We invite family and friends to join us in a Celebration of Life gathering that will be held on Saturday, November 25th at the Pekin Park Pavilion from 1 to 4 p.m. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Central Illinois Chapter, 614 West Glen Avenue, Peoria, IL 61614.
