Kenneth W. Ahten, Sr.

HOPEDALE ~ Kenneth William Ahten, Sr., 78, of Hopedale, passed away at 3:37 p.m. Saturday, November 18, 2017 at UnityPoint Health – Pekin.

Born March 27, 1939 in Peoria to William and Martha (Lescher) Ahten, he married Margaret Marie Spracklen on July 2, 1967 in Pekin.  She died December 30, 2005 in Peoria.  He also was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ronald Ahten.

Surviving are one son, Kenneth W. Ahten, Jr. of Hopedale; one daughter, Elaine M. Ahten of Pekin; one brother, Ray Ahten of Pekin and several nieces and nephews.

Ken was a United States Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.

He worked for Prairie Farms Dairy in Peoria for 24 years and 6 months in the cooler, as a dock worker and trailer spotter, retiring in 2004.  He previously had worked for Borden’s Dairy in Pekin for 15 ½ years and several years for Sommer Brothers Seed Company.  Ken was a retired member of Teamsters & Chauffeurs Union Local 627 in Peoria.

Ken loved the Lord and attended Pekin Bible Church.  He was a 58-year member of the former Bethel Mennonite Church in rural Pekin and enjoyed attending Bible studies for many years at the Miller Center in Pekin.

He was fond of antique tractors and enjoyed gardening.  He particularly enjoyed going to tractor pulls and parades with his brother.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Pastor Chad Nightingale will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.  Additional visitation will be one hour before the funeral.  Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pekin Bible Church, 2405 Court Street, Pekin, IL 61554 or to Peoria Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 837, Peoria, IL 61652.
