Karen E. Duffy

PEKIN ~ Karen Elaine Duffy, 78, of Pekin, formerly of Mackinaw and formerly of Chicago, passed away at 1:46 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2017 at her home. 

Born July 14, 1939 in Chicago to Thomas and Genevieve (Byrne) Downes, she married Bill McDonald.  She later married Don Duffy in July, 1978 in Park Ridge, IL.  He died in February, 1990 in Evanston.  Also preceding her in death are her parents; two sons, Tommy in 1969 and Michael in 1984; one brother, Tom and one sister, Virginia.

Surviving are one son, William McDonald III of Peoria; one daughter, Peggy (Philip) Neri of Pekin; two grandchildren, Doug Martin and Michelle (Josh) Fields, both of Peoria and three great-grandchildren, Lillie, Joe and Abel.

Karen had attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Peoria.

She had owned and operated Bath Products until 1990 in Deerfield.  Prior to that, she had owned and operated Krazy Daisy, also in Deerfield.

She enjoyed dancing and rock and roll music.  She was incredibly Irish and known as the “Red Wizard” because she was knowledgeable about many subjects.  She loved her family with all her heart.

Her funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Father Michael Andrejek will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday and also from 8:30 until 9:15 a.m. Monday, both at the funeral home.  All are then invited to her committal prayer service at 2 p.m. Monday at All Saints Cemetery Chapel, 700 N. River Rd., Des Plaines, IL.
