Thomas W. Spracklen

PEKIN ~ Thomas William Spracklen, 72, of Thayer, Mo., passed away at 6:30 p.m. Monday, January 1, 2018 at his home.  He was formerly of South Pekin.

Born October 10, 1945 in Effingham to Thomas Junior and Helen Irene (Baker) Spracklen, he married Peggy L. Poe on May 28, 1966 in St. Louis, Mo.  He later married Diana L. Lee on Dec. 22, 2000 in Thayer, Mo.  She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Chawn A. (Tracy) Spracklen of Pekin; two daughters, Darla J. (Ben) Smith of East Peoria and Teresa L. Spracklen of South Pekin; four grandchildren, Tommy Smith, Darek Blasdel, Wyatt Neidig and Lillian Spracklen; five brothers, Harold W. Spracklen of Mattoon, Millard L. Spracklen, Wilmer E. Spracklen, both of Pekin, Robert Spracklen and Randall Spracklen, both of Effingham and one sister, Denise (Philip) Childress of Beecher City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Emily Smith; a step-daughter, Amanda and two sisters, Toni and Janet.

Tom served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era.

He retired from Caterpillar, Inc. in 1992 with 30 years of service as a millwright.  Tom also worked as a police officer for the Village of Green Valley and also had owned and operated a feed store in South Pekin.  He was a longtime volunteer firefighter in South Pekin.

He loved fishing, hunting and woodworking.  Tom enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and family.  He was a former member of the Pekin Moose Lodge 916 and Eagles Aerie 1869 in Pekin.  He also was a former member of the Elks Lodge in Thayer, Mo.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in San Jose, where military rites will be accorded by the United States Army.
