Viola J. Wolfer

PEKIN ~ Viola Juanita Wolfer, 95, of Pekin, passed away at 9:01 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin.

Born January 3, 1923 in Lovington to Joseph Green and Alma Juanita (McVickers) Reed, she married Richard H. Juchems on August 20, 1946 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  He died October 25, 1962.  She later married Willard J. Wolfer on October 10, 1964 in Pekin.  He died June 10, 1988.  She also was preceded in death by her parents; a step-son, Tom A. Wolfer; two step-great-grandchildren, Mark Williams and Hunter St. Cerny; two brothers, Hilton Reed and Melvin Reed and one sister, Romona J. Haller.

Surviving are one step-son, Larry E. (Mary) Wolfer of Pekin; two grandsons, Gary (Michele) Wolfer of Marquette Heights and Kevin (Sonja) Wolfer of Mapleton; four granddaughters, Michelle L. (Rollie) Gillespie of Groveland, Melissa K. (Michael) Flier, Holly A. (Robin) Duley, both of Pekin and Leanna K. (Michael) Sammis of North Pekin; eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  She also leaves two daughters-in-law, Vicki Wolfer of Bartonville and Carol Wolfer of East Peoria and a sister-in-law, Glenda Reed of Marquette Heights.

Mrs. Wolfer worked as the business manager for Wolfer Speedy Delivery from 1962 to 1990.  She also previously worked in the lab at Standard Brands and in the office at American Distilling, both in Pekin.

She was a lifelong member of Second Reformed Church in Pekin, where she was also a member of the Mary/Martha Circle and the Women’s Guild of the church.  She also formerly sang in the church choir.

She was an avid reader, loved reading the newspaper and crocheting.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Pastor Bill Appleyard-Pekich will officiate.  Visitation will be one hour before the funeral.  Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
