Betty Jean (Helman) Maquet

PEKIN ~ Betty Jean (Helman) Maquet, 91, of Pekin, passed away at 4:43 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Pekin Manor.

Born September 20, 1926 in Pekin to John Adam and Ethel (Genda) Helman, she married Richard R. “Bud” Maquet on June 18, 1947 in Beardstown. He died December 29, 1989 in Pekin. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, John A. Maquet; three sisters, Lois Hutchison, Joan Percefull and Lorraine Comstock and one brother, Jack Helman.

Surviving are two sons, Richard “Bud” Maquet and Raymond (Kim) Maquet, both of Pekin; four daughters, Karen (Leo) Berardi, Colleen Moore, Sandy (Art) Stewart and Julie (Rick) Fryman, all of Pekin; 17 grandchildren, Joe (Heidi) Berardi, Tony (Stef) Berardi, Mike (Natalie) Berardi, Jeff Moore, Jenni (Beau) Williams, Jason (Brooke) Moore, Brian Maquet, Nic (Nicole) Maquet, Rob (Heather) Maquet, Angela (Nate) Blanquart, Chris (Jessica) Stewart, Scott Stewart, Josh Fryman, Ricky Fryman, Tommy Fryman, Sara Fryman and Jessica Maquet; 31 great-grandchildren; two brother-in-law’s, Bill Comstock of Pekin and Wesley Newell of Peoria and one sister-in-law, Deannie Helman of Pekin.

Betty was a former member of Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1232 Ladies Auxiliary and a volunteer for Mother’s March for March of Dimes.

A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Betty enjoyed writing, drawing and doing needle point.

Betty was a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
