Julie A. Hauter

ELMWOOD ~ Julie Ann Hauter, 73, of Elmwood, passed away at 7:45 p.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018 at her home.
Born April 10, 1944 in Chicago to John Hamilton and Anna Jane (Gray) Gainer, she married Gordon Lee Hauter on April 20, 1963 in Pekin.
Surviving are two sons, Ty (Suzannah) Hauter of Franklin, Tennessee and Sean Hauter of Normal; one daughter, Marcy (Matt) Tadla of Plainfield; six grandchildren, Jessica Hauter, Presley Hauter, Chauntel Hauter, Lisa Carnegis, Henry Tadla and Caroline Tadla; one great-granddaughter, Lilah Hauter and one brother, Larry (Pat) Gainer of Davenport, Iowa. She also leaves a brother-in-law, Bill Beebe of Groveland.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Janice Beebe.
She attended Pekin schools and in 1962 was named outstanding business student of the year by the National Office Management Association. She later earned her Associate Degree in Marketing Management from Illinois Central College.
She was employed by Keystone Steel & Wire Company, Caterpillar, and D.A. Hoerr & Sons before purchasing Elm Haven Retirement Complex in Elmwood in 1986. She retired in 2013 and commented that she enjoyed her work at Elm Haven and felt as though she was “right were God wanted her to be.”
Julie enjoyed spending time with her family, most of all her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She also enjoyed gardening, genealogy work and antiquing. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin and served on the task force to establish Good Shepherd Lutheran School in Pekin. She also joined in Bible studies in Elmwood. Her community service included Elmwood Kiwanis, Elmwood Historical Society, Save Outdoor Sculptures of Illinois and the Landmark Preservation Team in Elmwood.
Her memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. David Pyell will officiate. Visitation will be two hours before the service.
