Obituaries are so much more than a public notice that a friend or loved one has passed away.

William "Bill" H. Kelley, Jr.

2/3/1940 - 3/4/2018

PEORIA ~ William H. “Bill” Kelley, Jr., 78, of Peoria, left this life all too suddenly on Sunday, March 4, 2018, passing away at his residence.

He was born on February 3, 1940 in Peoria to William H. Sr., and Dorothy (Hudson) Kelley.  His parents preceded him in death.

Bill was an Army Veteran, serving in the Korean War.  Before entering into the service he married Phyllis Ann Bugg on December 24, 1958.  She survives.

Also surviving are one brother Austin H. Kelley (Tomiko) of Peoria, along with 3 children, Teresa L. Crow (Greg Cheatham) of Peoria, William Jeff Kelley (Wendy Schmelski) of Bellevue, Kathleen Beckman (Todd) of Peoria, and son-in-law, Greg Crow of Peoria; 6 grandchildren, Geremy Crow, Dustin Crow, Breanna Schatsiek (Tyler), Kayla Beckman (William Jones), Kylie Beckman (Jarret Summers) and Lisa M. Kelley (Michael McTaggert); and 3 great grandchildren whom he absolutely adored, Adilynn and Blakely Schatsiek, and Gatlin Jones.  He also leaves his ever present furry companions, Downey his dog and his two mini-donkeys, Whalen and Willie.

Bill had worked at Pabst for 24 years and later at Altorfer, Inc. for over 10 years.

He had a huge heart for rescuing animals in need over the years from The Ark Animal Shelter in Lacon.  He always enjoyed telling stories from his past in the military service and his life’s journey in general.  Bill enjoyed motorcycle racing over the years, traveling in the beginning with his son, then son-in-law, and lastly attending his grandson’s races.  He also enjoyed watching his granddaughter’s barrel race, spending time with his son doing various activities, watching his grandchildren become adults and great-grandchildren growing up, riding motorcycles, restoring his boat and taking it to the river, and restoring old cars over the years.  Bill loved tinkering with just about anything.

He will be sorely missed by many family and friends alike, but we are not saying goodbye, rather, until we meet again.

A private family gathering celebrating Bill’s life will be held.  Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

Memorial contributions in his honor may be sent to The Ark Animal Shelter, 477 State Route 26, Lacon, IL  61540.
