David M. Farrar

CREVE COEUR ~ David M. Farrar, 87, of Creve Coeur, passed away at 5:27 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born October 11, 1930 in Lynchville, Tennessee to Charley and Nancy Ann (Hawks) Farrar, he married Dorothy E. Sours on October 8, 1952 in Marquette Heights. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Gary Lee (Diana) Farrar of East Peoria; two daughters, Nancy Marie (Rick) Mitzelfelt of The Villages, FL and Patricia Ann (Dennis) Whitley of Manito; nine grandchildren, Jeremy (Kristen) Farrar, Joshua (Sara) Farrar, Danyell (Jason) Rosenbaum, Gabrielle Graves, Megan Wotton, Alexandria Whitley, Bradley (Abby) Mitzelfelt, Erin Mitzelfelt and Lane (Kathryn) Mitzelfelt; seventeen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and two sisters.
David retired in 1987 from Caterpillar, Inc. in Mapleton with 16 years of service. He previously worked for Lipsett Steel in Bartonville. David was a custodian for East Peoria Free Methodist church for 29 years.
A member of the Free Methodist Church in East Peoria, David attended Pekin First Church of the Nazarene.
David loved working with wood, mowing yards and always liked to keep busy. David was a volunteer at Pekin Township for 30 years.
His grandchildren were the center of his life.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Les Rovenstine and Rev. W. Lloyd Brock will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, 530 Northeast Glen Oak Avenue, Peoria, IL 61637.
