James M. Nelson

PEKIN ~ James M. “Jim” Nelson, 67, of Pekin, passed away at 2:52 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018 at his residence.

Born September 29, 1950 in Pekin to James Willard and Venere “Vera” (Fioravanti) Nelson, he married Cynthia K. “Cindy” Nash on July 18, 1971 in Pekin.  She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Daniel James (Shannon) Nelson of Cape Girardeau, MO and Patrick James (Nicki) Nelson of Peoria; one daughter, Theresa Marie (Adam) Bailey of Pekin; eight grandchildren, Erin Nelson, Samuel Nelson, Nathan Nelson, Benjamin Nelson, all of Cape Girardeau, Caleb Nelson, Ava Nelson, both of Peoria, Trey Bailey and Zayden Bailey, both of Pekin; one sister, Judi (Phil) Cool of Pontiac; five brothers-in-law, Mike (Marla) Nash of The Villages, FL, Randy (Wendy) Nash of Germantown Hills, Gary (Denise) Nash of Pekin, David (Cynthia) Nash of Tremont and Christopher (Tricia) Nash of Pekin and many nieces and nephews.

His parents preceded him in death.

Jim worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 43 years, retiring in 2013 from Logistics I.T. at the Mossville facility.

Jim was very active with his faith and in sharing Christ.  He was a member and Deacon of Town & Country Baptist Church in rural Pekin.  He also was a member of the Ironmen Men’s Group of the church and their Missions Director.  He was a former member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin.

A faithful and loyal man, Jim loved attending his kids and grandkids activities.  He also enjoyed camping, fishing and tinkering with cars.  He was in to computers and gadgets too.  He was both a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.

His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Town & Country Baptist Church.  Pastor Timothy Ellison will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Burial will be in Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.
