Richard S. Rhodes

PEKIN ~ Richard S. “Dick” Rhodes, 79, of  Pekin, passed away at 3:12 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2018 at UnityPoint Health – Methodist in Peoria.

Born September 10, 1938 in Hinsdale, he was the son of John Millard and Doris (Pinnell) Rhodes.  He married Dorothea Kay “Dottie” Dhom on January 16, 1965 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Charleston. 

Surviving are his wife, Dottie Rhodes; one daughter, Kimberly (Mark) Klokkenga of Dunlap; four grandchildren, Shaun (Rebekkah) Rhodes of Sanford, Florida, Ryan (Kelsie) Rhodes of  Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, Austin Klokkenga and Megan Klokkenga, both of Dunlap; three great-grandchildren, Tesslyn, Sadie, and Presley; one brother, John (Hua Ling) Rhodes of Carrollton, Texas; and daughter-in-law, Terry Rhodes Isaacs of The Villages, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard Todd Rhodes on August 17, 2006; and one brother, James Rhodes, who died during the Vietnam War.

He was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. 

He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston and continued his education with banking courses.

Dick had worked for Herget National Bank in Pekin for several years.  He later began his career with Caterpillar, Inc. in Central Purchasing, retiring in 1999 with over 22 years of service.

Dick had a passion for jazz music and enjoyed being outdoors hiking, biking, running where he participated in races, and motorcycle riding.  He also participated in Cub Scouts, Junior Achievement, Pekin Boys and Girls Club Soccer, and the Patriot Guard.

His funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Father Michael Andrejek will officiate.  Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded by the United States Air Force.
