Wilbert N. DeLong

PEKIN ~ Wilbert N. DeLong, 91, of Pekin, passed away at 6:49 a.m. Monday, April 02, 2018 at Timbercreek Rehab & Healthcare in Pekin.
Born September 4, 1926 in St. John, North Dakota to Lester and Florence (Swain) Delong, he married Dorothy Carrington on June 5, 1948 in Pekin.  She preceded him in death on November 23, 2010 in Pekin.  He also was preceded in death by six brothers.
Surviving are one daughter, Debbie S. (Daniel) Turner of Pekin; two grandsons, Toby (Carol) Turner and Todd (Tina) Turner, both of Pekin; one granddaughter, Tammy J. (Kory) Mitchell of Manito; three great-grandchildren, Kaley, Brooke and Steven Mitchell; and one sister, Marjorie Wawryk of Grand Fork, North Dakota.
Wilbert was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. 
He had served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Wilbert had worked for Pabst Brewing Company for twelve years, and then for Standard Brands for twenty-five years.  He last worked for the City of Pekin Street Department for fourteen years, retiring in 1993.
An outdoorsman, Wilbert enjoyed fishing, mowing, planting bushes and taking care of his yard.  
He was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus Archbishop Schlarman Council #3507 in Pekin.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Father Michael Andrejek will officiate.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Pekin, where military rites will be provided by the United States Army and the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
