Juanita L. Appleyard

PEKIN ~ Juanita Lee Appleyard, 78, of Pekin, passed away at 12:42 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at UnityPoint Health – Methodist in Peoria.
Born September 21, 1939 in Wilsonville to Harry Berneal and Virginia Templeton, she married Harold Ernest Appleyard on January 25, 1957 in Tacoma, Washington. He died September 3, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson.
Surviving are two sons, Roger (Diana) Appleyard and Glen Appleyard, both of Pekin; two daughters, Julie Appleyard and Lisa Appleyard, both of Pekin; five granddaughters; ten great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Yvonne (Dean) Larimore and Roberta Montgomery, both of Pekin.
Juanita had worked at the Murphy’s Mart in the Pekin Mall. She later worked for Pekin Public Schools District #108 as a lunch lady at Garfield School.
She was life member and past president of the George M. Maple Memorial AMVETS Post #235 Auxiliary in Pekin. She also was a member of the Pekin Hospital Auxiliary, where she had volunteered in the pharmacy and on the 8th floor. In 2012, Juanita was recognized by Pekin Hospital for 3,500 volunteer hours. She had also volunteered in the pharmacy at the Peoria V/A Clinic. She had been a member of the Red Hat Society, Conamigas Club, Celestial City Campers, and Pinochle Club. She was a former Associate Advisor for the Pekin Police Department Explorer Post #400.
Juanita enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and plastic canvas. She will be remembered for being caring, easy going, quiet, and sometimes stubborn. She loved her granddaughters and her great-grandchildren. Juanita enjoyed square dancing and was a former member of the Circle Eights and the Squares on Wheels Square Dance Clubs.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
