Clyde L. Cather

PEKIN ~ Clyde Lewis Cather, 85, of Pekin, passed away at 12:32 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2018 at his residence.

Born April 4, 1933 in Macomb to Otis Lee “Jack” and Nora Blanche (Dorethy) Cather, he married Martha J. Bernshausen on July 3, 1955 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin.  She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Daryl (Debbie Hopper) Cather, Kevin Cather and Nick Lee, all of Pekin; one daughter, Lori (Chris) Bouris of Pekin; five grandchildren, Deidre Cather, Dustin Cather, Brittany Bouris, Brian Bouris and Brandon Lee and two great-grandchildren, Michael and Jaxon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant sister and one great-grandson.

Clyde was a 1952 graduate of Pekin Community High School.

He enjoyed a long and full career as a printer.  He retired from Pekin Insurance with 40 years of service on April 4, 1997.  He also had worked at Kwik Print in Pekin and for Caterpillar, Inc.

Clyde was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time at the library.  He loved to take drives in the fall to see the beautiful colors, attend car shows and craft shows. He also loved being near water, especially the Illinois River and had great memories of his 1959 Ford Hardtop Retractable.  He enjoyed going to gun shows and was a member of the N.R.A.  He always enjoyed popcorn.

He was a man of few words, and expressed his sentiments through his incredible knack of card giving, which was extremely important to him.  He was a very charitable man and gave to many organizations and financially assisted the homeless.

He was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin.

A celebration of life gathering will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Avanti’s Ristorante, 3610 Kelly Avenue in Pekin.  Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tazewell Animal Protective Society, 100 Taps Lane, Pekin, IL  61554 or to Alzheimer’s Association, Central Illinois Chapter, 614 West Glen Avenue, Peoria, IL 61614.
