George J. Massetti

PEKIN ~ George Joseph Massetti, 96, of Pekin, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2018 at his home. 

Born August 22, 1921 in Merced, California to Giuseppe and Adel (Lavezzi) Massetti, he married Judith Elaine “Judy” (Stroup) Hedden on July 14, 2003 in Reno, Nevada.  She survives. 

Also surviving are seven children, David (Marlene) Massetti of Dublin, California, Daniel (Jane Huver) Massetti of Arizona, and Joseph Massetti of Sacramento, California, Rick Engelbrecht of Peoria, Cheryl Hedden and Jackee Hedden, both of Pekin, and Mindy Hedden of Edelstein. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Al Massetti; and one sister, Annabelle. 

A United States Navy veteran of World War II, he served from June 1, 1938 to September 22, 1945.  He was stationed in the Pacific Theater and attained the rank of Gunner’s Mate Second Class. 

George was a fireman for the City of Oakland, California for many years. 

He was a member of Northwoods Community Church in Peoria.  At the age of 86, he gave his heart to the Lord.  

George was an avid bowler and had bowled in tournaments throughout the United States. 

He will be remembered for being a loving father, magnificent husband, and a great grandfather.  George had a great life and made Judy laugh every day. George and Judy had a beautiful and loving marriage. They were together 24/7 from day one. Judy will miss him so much every minute. They were each other’s life.  George loved all his children very much, he was proud to be their dad. All his kids loved him so much and will truly miss him. 

There will be no services and cremation arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
