Alan R. Hootman

PEKIN ~ Alan Raymond Hootman, 76, of Pekin, passed away at 8:14 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2018 at UnityPoint Health – Methodist in Peoria.
Born March 27, 1942 in Canton to Arthur Raymond and Ruth Bernice (Ellis) Hootman, he married Pamela Ruth Duncan on September 3, 1961 at Calvary Baptist Church in Pekin by the Rev. Hubert Entwisle.
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Dawn Hootman of Pekin; one son, David Hootman of Pekin; two brothers, Gary (Lynda) Hootman of Peoria and Mark (Carol) Hootman of Washington; two nieces; two nephews; and his sister-in-law, Becky Phillips of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Daniel Hootman.
Alan received his Associates Degree in Business from Illinois Central College in East Peoria.
He had served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Alan worked at Caterpillar, Inc. for 30 years, retiring in 1993 from the tool crib at the Mapleton Foundry. Following his retirement, he worked at Sears in the tool department for 9 years, first at the downtown Peoria store and later at the Peoria Northwood’s Mall store.
He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Groveland, where he was a former church usher. Alan was a born again Christian and loved reading his Bible.
Alan enjoyed traveling and watching Westerns and war movies. He will be remembered for being caring, giving, and quiet unless he knew you, then he was a chatterbox.
His service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. The Rev. Mark Mincy and Rev. Dr. Steven Hauter will officiate and military rites will be accorded by the United States Air Force. There will be no visitation.
