CREVE COEUR ~ Charles Eldon “Charlie” Nelson, 71, of Creve Coeur, passed away at 1:05 a.m. Sunday, December 2, 2018  at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born July 14, 1947 in Tipton, California to Connie and Artie Ethel (Reynolds) Nelson, he married Patricia Yarborough on May 15, 1967 in Tampa, Florida.  He later married Margie Pannier on June 25, 1988 in Creve Coeur.  She survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Starlet Billingsley of East Peoria, Tonya Nelson of Peoria, Jolena (Gary) Nussel of Baxter Springs, Kansas and Jamie (Fred) Fallert of East Peoria; one son, Charles Nelson of Creve Coeur; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Brenda Kneer on October 3, 2010 in Creve Coeur and two sisters.

Charlie had worked for Centre State International Trucking in Peoria for 34 years, retiring in 2013 as a diesel mechanic.

A very talented musician, Charlie could play any stringed instrument.  He loved playing music, especially Blue Grass Gospel.  He had played in the musical group “We Are Gospel” for 12 years.  He also enjoyed working on and rebuilding classic cars.  He loved his family and his Lord and going fishing with his grandchildren.

Charlie was a member of Elmridge Southern Missionary Baptist Church in Creve Coeur where a Celebration of Life gathering will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2018.  Pastor Ken TerBush will officiate.  Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur had been entrusted with arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 530 Northeast Glen Oak Avenue, Peoria, IL 61637.
