Richard E. Jones

PEKIN ~ Richard Eugene Jones, 89, of Pekin, passed away 12:29 p.m. Saturday, October 19,2019 at Pekin Manor.
Born July 9, 1930 in Athens to Harvey and Feraldine (Hudspeth) Jones, he married Marlene Elizabeth Eitenmiller on June 12, 1955 in rural Green valley. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Julie Ann Rich of Peoria; one son, Steven (Della) Jones of Bloomington; three grandchildren, Craig (Camille) Rich of Washington, Brock (fiancée, Alexis Prenzler) Jones and Claire (fiancée, Nick Sittinger) Jones, both of Chicago and one sister, Sherry (Robert “Butch”) Mitchell of Manito.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert Jones and one in infancy.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korea era in the Special Peace Keeping Forces in Trieste, Europe.
Dick had worked as an Office Services Supervisor for 25 years at the American Distillery until it’s closing. He later worked at Sherex Chemical in Mapleton for 13 years before retiring in 1991.
A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, Dick enjoyed watching sports, especially the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He was also an avid supporter of the Pekin Dragons.
Dick loved traveling, going on family fishing trips to Wisconsin and Minnesota and spending quality time with family, especially his grandchildren.
He was a member of St. John’s (Sand Prairie) Lutheran Church in rural Green Valley, where he served as an Elder and was a member of William Schaefer American Legion Post #44 in Pekin.
The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Pekin Manor for their compassionate care.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Green Valley. Pastor Chris Sansom and DCE William Krueger will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Additional visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday morning at the church. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Military rites will be provided by the United States Army and Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
