Shirley L. Scamp

PEKIN ~ Shirley Lee Scamp, 89, of Pekin, passed away at 4:06 a.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at Pekin Manor.

Born December 25, 1929 in Pekin to William and Grace (Turnpaugh) Hoyle, she married William Ralph “Bill” Scamp, Jr. on May 4, 1947 in Pekin.  He died March 31, 2019 in Pekin.  She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Dianne Scamp-Dorris and Karen Scamp; three brothers and one sister.

Surviving are two grandsons, Eric Dirst of Peoria, Daniel (Wendy) Dirst of Coralville, Iowa; two granddaughters, Melissa (Bryan) Dorris-Hall of Pekin, Bridget (Othey) Dorris-Henderson of Wapella; seven great-grandchildren, Josh (Brittany) Pogioli, Bethany Lingenfelter, Larry Ford, Marissa Ford, Logan Ford, Jazmyne Truesdale and Mykal Truesdale; four great-grandchildren, Payton Pogioli and Packston Pogioli, both of Mountain Home, Idaho, Sabrina Lingenfelter and Braylinn Lingenfelter, both of Pekin and one son-in-law, Everett Dorris of Delavan.  She also leaves three sisters, Helen Jones, Rose (Don) Cohenoeur and Lois, all of Pekin.

A homemaker, Shirley had worked at the Star-Lite Drive-In Theater in Pekin.

She enjoyed taking care of her family, cooking, making candies and cookies.  She was known especially for making her Divinity.

Her graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.  Pastor Steve Weber will officiate.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

The family would like to say a special thank you to all of the friends and staff at Pekin Manor who treated Shirley as family and cared for her to the very end.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Central Illinois Chapter, 614 West Glen Avenue, Peoria, IL 61614.
