John L. Jones

SAN JOSE ~ John Larkin Jones, 81, of San Jose, passed away at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2019 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Born October 9, 1938 in Thompsonville to James C. and Ida Mae (Wintz) Jones, he married Elizabeth Allene Womack on June 2, 1961 at State Street Baptist Church in Lincoln.  She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, James (Barbara) Jones of Green Valley and John (Sandi) Jones of Lincoln; two daughters, Marsha (Pastor Steve) Weber of Morton and Angela Arnold of Lincoln; nine grandchildren, John Jones, Jason Jones, Andrew (Flo) Jones, Mark (Rachel) Weber, Sarah (Jeremy) Tharp, Alizabeth LeSuer, Alex LeSuer, Alyssia LeSuer and Matthew LeSuer; one great-grandson, Cade Tharp and one brother, Larry (Linda) Jones of Hartsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Carl David Jones, who died while in military service.

John had served in the United States Air Force.

He formerly worked for Caterpillar, Inc., Sunnyland Cabinets, Lewis Industries in Green Valley and for Pensacola Christian College in maintenance.  John last owned and operated New Image with his son, John, doing interior remodeling, custom cabinet work and cabinet refacing for many years.

In John’s earlier years, he enjoyed hunting, raising and training Basenji dogs as well as riding horses.  He also collected knives, antiques and was a member of the National Rifle Association.

He was a member of Park Meadows Baptist Church in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 6, 2020 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Pastor Steve Weber will officiate.  Visitation will be one hour before the funeral.  Burial will follow the funeral at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
