Samuel E. Mohlenbruck

CREVE COEUR ~ Samuel Eugene “Sam” Mohlenbruck, 73, of Creve Coeur, passed away at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born October 24, 1946 in Beardstown to Fred Herman and Tilpha Florence (Dodds) Mohlenbruck, he married Rebecca “Beckie” Walker on November 21, 1970 in Peoria.

Surviving are his wife, Beckie Mohlenbruck of Creve Coeur; one daughter, Stefanie Renee Mohlenbruck of Springfield; two brothers; Herman Mohlenbruck and Richard “Dick” Mohlenbruck, both of Frederick; two sisters; Wilma “Piddle” Brown of Maquon and Fredia Walker of Rushville; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ila Weishaar, and Etha Stambaugh.

A United States Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, he served from August 30, 1965 to August 21, 1969.  He had served aboard the USS Whetstone.

Sam retired from Caterpillar, Inc. after 30 years of service as an engine repairman.  He was a member of the United Autoworkers Local 974 in East Peoria.  

Sam was a beloved and devoted husband and father.  He was known as quite the character. You never knew what words were going to come out of his mouth, but it was always entertaining.  He enjoyed going to the casino, NHRA drag racing, watching sports, sitting in the yard at home and spending time with his family at gatherings and cookouts where everyone knew he was there.

A memorial gathering of friends and family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 5th, 2020 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur.  There will be no services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Post Office Box 758571, Topeka, Kansas, 66675.
