Edward J. Freas

PEKIN ~ Edward J. Freas, 95, of Pekin passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 12:43 a.m. at Amy’s Country Manor in Pekin.

Born December 23, 1924 in St. Louis, MO to Jesse and Lucille (Lusby) Freas, he married Wilma Hatfield on June 14, 1946 in Hannibal, MO. She preceded him in death on February 21, 2001. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two sons-in-law.

Surviving are his daughter, Patricia Vick Byrne of Delavan; three grandchildren, James (PJ) Vick of Delavan, Scott (Amy) Vick of Canton and Tricia (Scott) Springer of Roanoke; nine grandchildren, Ryan and Kristen Vick, Kaitlyn, Jessica, Joshua and Madison Vick, Koleton Springer, Emma (Jason) Bradle, and Lydia (Brian) Rokey and two great-great granddaughters, Ellie Jayne Bradle and Calla Jo Bradle.

He served in the Army and was a member of the Pekin Moose Family Center #916, William Schaefer American Legion Post #44 in Pekin, Paul Towne Memorial Amvets Post #169 in North Pekin and VFW Post #15014.

Edward worked as a Quality Line Inspector at Caterpillar, Inc., before retiring on August 1, 1982. He was also a member of the UAW Local 974 in East Peoria for 30 years.

He enjoyed deer hunting, sledding and was avid Cardinals baseball fan. In his younger years he loved playing baseball at Clemens Field in Hannibal, Missouri.

His graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, Missouri.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
