Laura McClister

PEKIN ~ Laura Ellen McClister, 76, of Pekin, passed away at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at her home.

 

Born December 17, 1943 in Hammond, Indiana to Vern Alfred and Agnes Mercedes (Johns) Slagel, she married Jack Dean on September 16, 1961, He died in 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Agnes Adams and one brother, Charles Slagel.

 

Surviving are two children, Darren M. McClister and Diane Hutter (Mark Thacker), both of Pekin; three grandchildren, Brian Hutter, Christina Hutter and Lauren (Flavio) Romero; one great-grandson, Jax Charles Hutter; one sister, Cheryl Squires of Pekin and many extended family and friends.

 

Laura was a Past Worthy Matron of Celestial City Chapter, Order of Eastern Star; Past member of Victoria White Shrine; Past Grand Chief of Illinois for the Sunbeam Temple Pythian Sisters; Majority Member and Past Bethel Guardian for Job's Daughters International and member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

 

She was a 1961 graduate from Pekin Community High School and obtained her Food Service Supervisor certificate from the University of South Dakota leading to her earning her Illinois Public Health license.

 

Laura had worked at Pekin Insurance for 28 years as cafeteria supervisor, retiring in 2003. Prior to that, she had worked 10 years at Hallmark House and American Health.

 

Her greatest love was for her family. She also enjoyed playing cards very much and looked forward to her two card clubs every week, playing Hand and Foot.

 

Her memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. James C. McClarey will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m immediately followed by an Order of the Eastern Star service. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
