Maureen F. Burns

PEORIA ~ Maureen F. Burns, 87, of Peoria, passed away at 4:27 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2020 at UnityPoint Health – Proctor in Peoria.

Born September 9, 1932 in Panama to Michael and May (Hoare) Dourneen, she married Dean R. Burns on January 13, 1962 in Peoria.  He died June 24, 2017 in Peoria.  She also was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Sheila Ann Dourneen and one brother, John Michael "Jack" Dourneen.

Surviving are one daughter, Kerin (Daniel Merle “Dan” Wilson) Burns of Chillicothe; two sons, Keith (Julie Rogers) Burns of Green Forest, Arkansas and Kevin (Andrea Gain) Burns of Morton; six grandchildren, Nicholas (Sara) Kerr of Lakeland, Florida, Chelsea Burns of Morton, Michael Fromm of Dunlap, Karsen Burns of Morton, Kaden Burns of Chillicothe and Brandy (Nick) Turner of Peoria; five great-grandchildren, Odin Kerr, Jaxton Mjelde, Kashton Mjelde, Ava Turner and Adrienne Turner and two brothers, Terry Dourneen and Philip (Nancy) Dourneen of Pekin.

A Registered Nurse, Maureen was a graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing and formerly worked for OSF St. Francis Medical Center, at the former Americana Nursing Home in Peoria, for Dr. Campbell and then for Dr. James Meyers.  Maureen later did private duty nursing.

She loved dancing at the Hub Ballroom in Edelstein and always attended her children’s activities, functions and sporting events.

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Peoria and was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.

Her graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin.  Father Michael Andrejek will officiate.  There will be no visitation.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in care of St. Joseph Catholic Church, 303 South 7th Street, Pekin, Illinois  61554 or to American Diabetes Association, 55 East Monroe Street, Suite 3420, Chicago, Illinois 60603.
