W. Karen Mowder

PEKIN ~ Wanda Karen Mowder, 78, of Pekin, passed away at 4:28 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2020 at UnityPoint Health in Pekin.

Born June 30, 1941 in Albemarle, North Carolina to Glenn and Vera (Mauldin) Whitley, she married Larry R. Mowder, Sr. on November 24, 1961 in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  He survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Mitzi (Tom) Privett of Norman, Oklahoma; two sons, Larry Mowder, Jr. and Glenn (Lisa) Mowder, both of Pekin; eight grandchildren, Stephanie (Kurtis) Schulenberg of Pekin, Elizabeth (Loyde) Knapp of Norman, Oklahoma, Thomas Privett of Nashville, Tennessee, Lindsey Van Dyke of Norman, Oklahoma, Anastacia Mowder of Chicago, Blake (Jessica) Mowder of Pekin, Larry “Trey” Mowder, III of Peoria and Ciara (Jared) Williams of Delavan; thirteen great-grandchildren and two sisters, Glenda McMahon of Johnsonville, Tennessee and Sue (Carl) Terry of Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Karen formerly worked at Bob Evans for 10 years, then at Old Thompsons in Manito for several years.  She last worked at L.E. Starke Primary School in Pekin for Aramark in the lunch room.  In earlier years, she worked at Mister Donut on Knoxville Avenue in Peoria.

Karen will be remembered as a sensational wife and mom.  She was adored by her grandkids and great-grandkids.  She liked to crochet and enjoyed working crossword puzzles, word searches and Sudoku’s.

She was a member of Pekin First Church of the Nazarene.

Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. There will be no visitation or funeral service.
