PEKIN – William “Bill” Earl Carter, 86, of Pekin, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at Timbercreek Rehab & Health Care in Pekin.
Born February 25, 1934 in Girard to Steve and Lovie (Skaggs) Carter, he married Bonnie L. Burks on April 15, 1954 in Pekin.
Surviving his wife of 66 years, Bonnie of Pekin; three children, Debbie L. Wood of Pekin, Gary E. (Cheryl) Carter of Texas and Rick J. (Cathy) Carter of Pekin; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Benson of Salem and one brother, David Carter of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Jeffrey Wood and eight siblings, Charles, Johnny, Bob, Steve, Lilly, Mary, Harold and George.
Bill was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1869 in Pekin.
He had worked as a welder for 20 years out of the Steamfitters Local 353 in Peoria, retiring in 1989.
Bill enjoyed woodworking, cabinet making, fishing and playing his guitar.
His memorial service will be at a later date at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
