Evelyn M. Vest

PEKIN ~ Evelyn Marie Vest, 89, of Pekin, passed away at 10:48 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Autumn Accolade in Green Valley.

Born January 16, 1931 in Pekin to Norman and Fannie (Perkins) Klein, she married Billie Wayne Vest on July 30, 1950 in Pekin with whom she had four children.

Surviving are three sons, Randy (Debbie) Vest, Rusty Vest and Keith Vest, all of Pekin; one daughter, Yvonne Vest of Pekin; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald Klein of Fairhope, Alabama and Harold Dean Klein of Atlanta, Georgia and her sister-in-law, Norma Klein of Pekin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Charles Klein; two sisters, Lois Sours and Clara Mae Klein. She worked as a Teacher’s Aide for Pekin Public Schools District 108 and her favorite part of the job was to supervise the children in the lunch room and on the playground.

Evelyn enjoyed spending time crocheting for her family and friends making afghans, baby blankets, and dish cloths. She was a life member of the Marine Corps Ladies Auxiliary, proudly supporting her three brothers that were in the Navy, Air Force, and United States Marine Corps. Evelyn was also a past member of Just Us Dance Club, line dancing in her younger years. Upon retirement, she enjoyed babysitting for her family and close friends. Music was always part of her life and even as she developed Alzheimer’s she resonated with music dancing and singing along to a tune.

She attended Faith Baptist Church in Pekin.

A gathering celebrating Evelyn’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
