Richard G. Swift

PEKIN ~ Richard Gayle “Dick” Swift, 89, of Yorkville, formerly of Pekin, passed away at 5:35 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at Cedarhurst Assisted Living.

He was born April 30, 1931 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Guy and Rubie (Peterson) Swift. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Roger.

He married Joann Gettman, on September 13, 1952 in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Carrie (Keith Guard) Swift of Plano, Il.; two grandsons, Nick Caldarone of Plano, and Chris (Erin) Taylor; and two great-grandchildren, Everette and Stanley Taylor of Peoria.

Dick served in the United States Navy for four years during the Korean War. He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 39 years retiring as a Superintendent at Mossville.

He was a life and 62 year member of Empire Lodge #126, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Pekin and a 53 year member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria.  He also was a 53 year member of the Mohammed Temple, Shrine.  He was a former member of Sunset Hills Country Club, where he spent many hours enjoying playing cards and golfing.

Cremation will be accorded. No services will be held at this time.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
