Obituaries are so much more than a public notice that a friend or loved one has passed away.

James E. "Jim" Brown

12/3/1940 - 7/27/2020

NORTH PEKIN – James E. “Jim” Brown, 79, of North Pekin, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2020 surrounded by his loved ones at home.

Born December 3, 1940 in Sycamore, he married Linda Ann Riebling on August 4, 1962 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Peoria.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years; cherished sons, Kevin (Michelle) Brown of North Pekin and Douglas Brown of Glendale, Arizona; three adored grandchildren, Mason Brown, Emily Brown and Morgan VanCleave and his sister, Judith (Bob) Blase of Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He also leaves a son-in-law, Brandon Mansfield.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Rankin; his daughter, Lori Mansfield and his brother, Michael Allan Tolley.

Jim proudly served his country twice; first as a member of the U.S. Air Force and later as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard. He was the president and owner of Climate Control Heating and Air Conditioning for 42 years until his retirement in 2010.

Jim never knew a stranger, was the life of the party, and could always put a smile on your face. His children, family and close friends affectionately nicknamed him Gizmo because of his innate ability to fix or build almost anything. He will be forever missed.

The immediate family is planning a private gathering to celebrate and remember Jim's life. We hope to have a memorial golf outing and picnic to celebrate Jim's life with friends and extended family once it is safe for larger gatherings. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or any other local veterans’ organization in Jim’s name.
