Florence A. Bruninga

PEKIN ~ Florence A. Bruninga, 88, of Pekin, passed away at 11:55 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at the Villas of Hollybrook in Pekin.

Born October 4, 1932 in Morgan County to Carl A. and Alice (Fanning) Rawlings, she married Thomas O. Evans on August 26, 1953 in Bloomington. He died September 17, 1999. She later married Harold O. Bruninga on October 5, 2002. He died October 8, 2018. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are one daughter, Cheryl (Mike) Gray of Pekin; one son, John (Melissa) Rawlings of Albion, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Chris (Kelly) Pollitt of Conover, North Carolina, Darin Pollitt of Pekin, Craig (Jamie) Pollitt of Bloomington, Dustin (Jessica) Pollitt of Morganton, North Carolina, Jennifer (Carson) Brooks of Dewey, John (Jordan) Rawlings of Evansville, Indiana and Jaclyn Rawlings of Albion, Michigan; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rita Hollingsworth of Kokomo, Indiana.

Florence worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 33 years, retiring in 1988 as a Warranty Analyst.

An avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Florence enjoyed crocheting, gardening and making Christmas Ornaments. She dearly loved her family and was called “Grandma Sugar” by her great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed her time spent monthly at card club.

She was a longtime member of the Pekin Women’s Club and a member and past president of the Pekin Emblem Club #424.

Florence was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Chaplain Katie Gallagher will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
