"Mrs. Thayer" It was sixth grade at Washington Junior High School. She was the first teacher that ever challenged me head on. Face to face. Toe to toe. She set the bar high and continually inched it upwards. And I am so much the better because of her faith and commitment to each and all of her students. My youthful memories of Mrs. Thayer are of a woman slight of build, full of energy, and totally fearless. I believe that at that age, I feared this woman. As I matured, there is no question that my feelings were of respect and admiration. I remember a presentation I did at her church. I looked out into the audience and there was Virginia, smiling at me. That sign of approval both warmed and enthused me. When the speech was over and we were sipping coffee, "Mrs. Thayer" complimented me on what I had said and who I had grown up to be. I have never received a higher compliment. Truly one of God's gifts to those she touched in this life. I know God will now bless and keep her for eternity. "Mayor Dave"
